Waterfall in the Gorge of the Nogaledas in Valle del Jerte

Who are you regular readers of Travel Guides you know that I have always had a special special attraction for the regions of northern Spain, specifically, Cantabria Y Asturias.

The combination of green landscapes, with mountains and coastal areas, have led me to travel frequently to these areas of the peninsula.

And, on the contrary, I have always had the prejudice that Estremadura, among other Spanish regions, is dry land.

My last trips to Extremadura, especially to areas north of the Community, has led me to discover the charm of pastures landscapes In winter and spring.

But until theexcursion to the Jerte Valley I did on the occasion of the Cerecera, I did not know that in this area there are landscape corners that take you to the north of the peninsula.

Indeed, I could not imagine that in the various gorges that extend through the valley you can find landscapes of incredible lushness, with a succession of waterfalls in which water flows surrounded by large vegetation.

How to get to the Gorge of the Nogaledas

I could see that during the hiking trail through the Gorge of the Nogaledas.

If you are fond of trekking, at Jerte Valley you currently have until 19 marked routes that run between steep gorges and hillsides full of cherry trees.

This contrast of landscapes certainly gives these routes a very special attraction.

Cited Route of the Gorge of the Nogaledas Part of town of Navaconcejo, where after crossing the stone bridge that crosses the jerte river, by a path goes to the mouth of the throat.

It is a hiking route with a circular route, low difficulty, just over four kilometers, and an estimated duration of an hour and a half in its simplest version.

Already from the beginning, and more if it is a year of heavy rains, you go into lush vegetation where you find poplars, alders and ash trees on the banks of the throat.

Landscapes of the Jerte Valley from the Gorge of the Nogaledas

You will walk along a well signposted path, with some area of greater slope, and in this first section you will find up to four waterfalls that will surprise you with their waterfalls.

Each of these waterfalls they are a pretext to rest and enjoy a landscape that, at least to me, did not seem typical of Extremadurto.

After overcoming the fourth waterfall, you reach a forest trail, and a few meters, just across the gorge, on the right you have the option of climbing to a fifth waterfall, access that is not included in the marked route.

Although you will see a warning sign with the emergency telephone for possible emergencies, do not panic, because although it is a section with a greater slope and something more complicated, it is perfectly accessible.

Once seen this last waterfall, the return to Navaconcejo You do it on a narrow, unpaved track.

In these mid-hill areas you will move among oaks, chestnut trees and, of course, cherry tree crops.

If you go during the summer season, until the beginning of August you will find the cherry trees plagued with cherries, and you may not be able to resist and your hand escapes to taste some of these delicious red fruits.

And if you do the route during the time of cherry blossoms, you will move between the spectacular landscapes in which the white color prevails.

This route can be done on your own, or also within the excursions for groups that organize companies in the area, such as Stay.
