Day 6: JAISALMER

Sunday, May 06, 2012

Today it was not even necessary for the alarm to sound. I've been up most of the night. I can already say that I belong to that 80% of travelers that once they reach India before a week has passed, they already have intestinal problems and I can't help thinking that today we have one of the most complete days visiting the Jaisalmer Fort and the Jain Temples.
I am fatal and I only thank you for not having to make a long car trip today, I am not sure that I was in a position to do so.
Roger is also not very fine, but for now he endures much better than me.
We don't know whether to call Mahendra to tell her that we are staying at the Desert Tulip Hotel & Resort in Jaisalmer this morning or not. It is a new situation for us, we had never got sick while traveling and we are a bit discouraged.
In the end we decided to go down for breakfast (I only toast) and decide, as I find myself, what to do.
Once down I can not even have breakfast, I have the fatal body and nothing enters my stomach, but it seems that I endure quite a lot without going to the bathroom, so I prefer to go to visit the Fort and the Jain Temples in the morning and see what happens after.

I will not stay without seeing the Jain Temples in Jaisalmer Fort, as bad as I find myself, I have that very clear 🙂
We tell Mahendra to take us first to Lake Gadi Sagar and then to the fort and to come and look for us at the Desert Tulip Hotel & Resort at 7 pm to go to eat at his house, in between we will look for the life, it's our turn!
We arrived at Gadi Sagar at 8 and a little in the morning and we already met Indian tourists there, we are quite surprised at the amount of national tourism we are seeing.
We remember the first day in Delhi where we saw more Indian tourists in all visits, than of any other nationality.
The truth is that Gadi Sagar did not imagine it as it really is and it has surprised us for good.
We have to say that Jaisalmer We like it a lot, it has a special atmosphere. That one that only feels in special places. And this is one of them.

Colors in Gadi Sagar

Awesome Gadi Sagar

After almost 45 minutes in Gadi Sagar we go to the Jaisalmer Fort and so at 9 in the morning we put “face” on that Fort that we liked so much yesterday from Sunset Point
We say goodbye to Mahendra until tonight and start our way.

Jaisalmer Fort

We are going up the slope that leads there slowly, between the heat and the body I have I can not give more ... But even if it is stubborn, today I do not miss the Jaisalmer Fort 🙂

Arriving at Jaisalmer Fort

Already at the entrance of the Jaisalmer Fort we find various "characters" ... some ask for rupees in exchange for photos and others do not want anything in return, vice versa, they ask for them.

As we go into the streets of El Jaisalmer Fort We notice that it is not so hot and despite the bad body we have, we are relieved to see that there are almost no people and we can walk quietly until they open the Jain temples of Jaisalmer Fort. These have very limited schedules and we want to square the time to see them all in a row.

When we have been walking around for a while Jaisalmer Fort, we stopped on the stairs leading to the Palace to rest for a while and there we met Jaysal, an Indian who speaks perfectly Castilian.
From the first moment he tells us that he is a translator for a wind company and although he has a very interesting conversation and we are very comfortable with him, at all times we are waiting for “delusion”.
So almost 45 minutes pass until we tell him that we have to go and he says goodbye kindly just saying a phrase that has been recorded "life is very long, surely we will meet again."
As we move away, we feel terrible for having thought badly of him ... we have been stuck with a thorn for not having followed the pleasant conversation we had, taking away the damage we bring from home about the treatment we can find on the part of the society.
Update 2017: Although it may seem a lie, Jaysal, after 5 years he has contacted us through Facebook. He met a couple who told him about us, entered the blog and suddenly saw his photo and remembered our conversation.
Jaysal, once you told us "life is very long, we are sure to meet again". Your words could never be so true: we have met again!

Very nice conversation at the gates of Jaisalmer Palace

Also, after talking with Jaysal, we have known that he is now an official guide in Jaisalmer. We leave you the data that you have sent us in case you feel like contacting him and showing you his city, one of the most beautiful in the world.

From here we return to the Jain Temples, because we have calculated that having such limited schedules and that a single ticket is valid for all seven, it is best to enter about 10.45 to have time to see them all.

We pay 150 rupees per person to see the Jain Temples of Jaisalmer Fort and after taking off our shoes and climbing the first steps ... it happens again as when we first saw the Fort. We can't shut up. They are impressive.

Within one of the Temples we recognize a couple that we have met a couple of times in this trip to india, they are Mexican and together we chat for a while about the trip, the things we will do ... etc
Soon we meet a Valencian boy who gives us some advice about our next destination, where he has already been ...
Although we have been here for a few days, it is always appreciated to find people from your country and spend some time talking.

Shortly before 12 we have already visited The 7 Temples of Jain and we have been amazed by this visit, without a doubt the best we have seen so far.
We go to a portal where the shadow is right in front of the Jain Temples, where before we have been resting to do the same and refresh ourselves a little.
We have forgotten to say that you cannot enter with water in the the Jain Temples of Jaisalmer Fort. So you can imagine how we got out ... desperate for a drink.
I think we had never drank so much water on a trip like this in India.

Tourism in the Jain Temples in Jaisalmer Fort

After a while resting, we return to the part of the Palace and meet again with those streets that seem to ask us for photos at all times. The colors are spectacular. And we cannot refuse this request!

When we arrived at the Palace Square we decided to take an autorickshaw that for 100 rupees takes us to the hotel of Jaisalmer.
This time we do not haggle much, we begin to notice fatigue again and the stomach begins to ask for rest. Today, not only does our body need rest, today the stomach seems to have asked for priority.
The journey is a mixture of feelings ... if you don't look at it yourself.

Walking the streets of Jaisalmer. Who said chaos ???

We had been told about driving in India, but we didn't think it was so chaotic. Comparing it with Thailand, Jordan, Turkey ... where we were a few years ago, we believe that it is not so much. Or is it that we are not very thin today?
Although it seems a lie, we are not able to go out all afternoon and we can do nothing but lie. The stomach seems to be getting worse and doesn't give me a break for this afternoon.
I start taking the medication (Fortasec) to see if it works and I can recover quickly.
At this time we find ourselves with less strength and we don't feel like eating, so we lay down to rest and wait for the hours to pass.
At 7 Mahendra comes to find us and we go to his house for dinner. There we meet his family, his wife and his daughter and they treat us as if we were his family.
We had a very pleasant time with them, eating a thali (which I can hardly taste because of the stomach discomfort) and a delicious dessert mango ice cream.
We talk and we talk and we share confidences in a house India, a house unknown to us, but in which they give us all the confidence in the world.
The only thing that makes me suffer is not being able to enjoy the experience 100% as we would have liked, for not feeling well.
Shortly before 10 p.m. Mahendra "returns us" to our hotel, the Desert Tulip Hotel & Resort.
At this time we all go with the idea that tomorrow we will find ourselves better in this trip to india. At least I, who am the worst.
We hope so ...
