When to travel to Southeast Asia? Ains difficult question, and one of the most received on the blog! So, finally, we have decided to prepare this post where we are going to tell you what is the best time to travel to Southeast Asia (country by country).

Before but let us clarify something. Obviously, weather and weather forecasting are not things we can control (we are not meteorologists, nor do we have a crystal ball). Also, in this time of climate change (yes Trump, it's real) you never know for sure…

Of course, there is something that is practically certain: throughout most of Southeast Asia you will find heat and humidity, although there are areas like the northern part of Vietnam, where in winter you will need some shelter!

Almost every country in Southeast Asia has a special climate and generally existtwo seasons: one dry and one rainy. If you can only travel in the rainy season, do not obsess either: we ourselves have traveled during that time and, except for some other showers, we had no major inconveniences.

How are the rains in Southeast Asia? In general, the rains are usually strong showers that last for a while, after which the sun rises again. It does not mean that there are periods of entire days completely covered, but we already assume that it depends on luck. Eye, in the Philippines for their position, rains tend to be more powerful, and in many cases the storms become typhoons, which if they can become dangerous.

So one last tip: whatever time you travel to Southeast Asia, take the oilskin!

Now, let's see what is the best time to travel to Southeast Asia (In the end you will have a table with the country to country summary).

If we consider that the rainy season is from the end of April until the beginning of October, it is clear that It is best to travel to the country in the months from November to the end of March. But there is an exception: the East Coast (Gulf of Thailand). Here the monsoon is the other way around and the rainiest months are those that go from October to January.

Eye: if you travel through the north of the country, you may find some cool things in December and January (nothing a sweatshirt can't help you withstand). In the rest of Thailand it is hot throughout the year. And try to avoid the months of April and May in the area of Chiang Mai, is known for its "smoky / burning season" and from there disappear all who can.

As in the case of Thailand, the rainy season runs from April to October. The south is somewhat rainier than the north as a general rule. In short, the best time to travel to Laos would be between the months of November to March.

If you visit it in the months of December, you may run into something fresh, especially in the north, but it is generally a hot and humid country.

The monsoon is the same as Thailand and Laos so in this case also the best time to visit Cambodia is the November, December, January, February and March.

It is a small country, so the changes are not too big from one end to the other.

Vietnam is a somewhat more complicated country, especially due to its very long shape (more than 2,500 km between north and south), so the weather changes depending on where you are.

If we talk about temperatures, in the south It is hotter and remains poorly variable throughout the year, while in the north, during the winter months, it can get cold. Keep this in mind if you are going to do some mountain trekking in these months, the temperature can drop to 5 degrees. We spent a few days in Hanoi in February and had to buy some shelter (eye, we talked about minimums of 12-14 degrees).

As for the rains, in the south There is usually a rainy season in the country from May to November, while in the center It rains more between the months of October to January (we find some rain in February too). The north It is generally an area quite affected by the rains, especially between the months of May and September.

That said, we believe that the best time to travel to Vietnam are the ones that go from January to April.

It would be advisable to travel to Myanmar at the time it is going from october to may, since the rainy season begins in June and continues until the beginning of October. The south is the area of the country that is most affected by the rains. We visited Myanmar in October and we didn't have a rainy day.

If you plan on trekking from Kalaw in the winter months, wear some warm clothes because it can get cold at night.

Malaysia has two epochs of monsoons depending on the area: between May and September it hits the west coast, and between November and March it is the east coast that is affected. Keep this in mind if you want to visit the islands of the east coast (Perhentian, Redang, Kapas or Tioman), because during the monsoon season all accommodations are usually closed to tourism due to the strong tides.

So, our recommendation for a complete trip to Malaysia, going through islands, isbetween march and october.

Due to its proximity to Malaysia, we recommend visiting it during almost the same time (from march to september), although if your trip coincides in the rainy season, do not panic either: you may get a storm but it never rains all day. It doesn't hurt that you always carry the raincoat in your backpack.

Indonesia is a huge country, so it is practically impossible to predict its climate in its entirety. Of course, as a general rule and considering that the majority of tourists travel to the islands of Java and Bali, we can recommend you avoid the winter months (December, January, February and beginning of March) which is when it rains the most. Prepare to spend a lot of heat: Indonesia is close to the equator, so heat and humidity are very present.

What is the best time to travel to Indonesia (Bali and Java)? Since end of march to october. If your idea is to visit the Moluccan Islands, here the seasons are changed, being the best time from October to April.

And we come to the country of Southeast Asia that causes more headaches in terms of climate. The reason is essentially that there are not only monsoons here ... there is a time of typhoons and those, friends, are not pleasant at all. And the worst part is that they are unpredictable, so the typhoon season is quite wide: normally those from June to the end of November are considered months of risk.

Therefore, the most recommended months to travel to the Philippines are from January to April. Although there is an exception: the island of Mindanao, the easternmost part of the Philippines, has the time changed. It rains here from December to March, so it is a good place to go if you plan a trip through Southeast Asia at this time.

Here you have a table with the best months to travel to each country in Southeast Asia.

As you can see, the weather in Asia is not something secondary when preparing a trip. To be more likely to enjoy your trip it is important that you try to avoid the rainy seasons in different countries. However, the weather is changing throughout the world, so you will not be 100% free from a dip in the dry season, or engage in a week of intense sunshine in the rainy season.

We hope it is clearer to youwhat is the best time to travel to Southeast Asia, and so plan your trip.
