We have already talked to you about Thai gastronomy and we have also told you what are the 10 typical dishes that you should try in Thailand. Now we are going to specify something else in the regional cuisine of the north of the country, here we leave you typical dishes of Chiang Mai! Take note and write them down (better than trying to remember the names ... because there are some that my mother ...), if you travel through Chiang Mai do not forget to try them!

UPS OUA

One of the most common and famous street food in Chiang Mai, it is a sausage stuffed with a dough made of pork combined with rice, lemongrass, ginger and a touch of chili. Eye, don't confuse it with the Sai Krok Isan, another typical sausage from northern Thailand, which is prepared on the barbecue and is made of meat, garlic and rice (which is sometimes good and sometimes not :-p). Look, since you are, try both and choose which one you like best

KHAO SOI

If we had to choose a dish in Chiang Mai we would not hesitate for a second ... we would recommend the Khao Soi, a soup of crispy noodles (unlike the rest of soups) that are served in a broth of coconut milk, ginger, tamarind, palm sugar, garlic, pepper and spices. It also includes chicken (there is a veg version). It is a very tasty dish (and somewhat spicy) and 100% typical of Chiang Mai.

They say the best one eats in the Khao Soi Islam although the strange thing is to find a bad one (yes, if you don't like anything spicy go better to tourist sites).

Moo kata

Well, Moo Kata is not a dish, it is rather a kind of barbecue where you can cook everything you want (from vegetables to meat and / or fish). Come on, more than a recipe is a true gastronomic experience, do not be afraid to innovate, mix and taste! Moo Kata restaurants are usually buffet, you pay a fixed fee (150-250 baht) and you can eat everything you want.

KAENG HANG LEI

It is also known as the "northern curry" or the "Burmese curry", and if you are in this area of Thailand you have to try it, it is very rich. It is a pork curry that has a slight spicy touch and a very peculiar flavor thanks to ginger, tamarind, garlic and tumeric (it does not carry coconut milk unlike most Thai curries). We personally love it.

COFFEE

Ok, coffee is not eaten but let us tell you that the Chiang Mai coffee scene is worth studying. There is no place in Thailand (nor do we believe in all of Asia) with such a large number of coffee shops by number of inhabitants. The culture of coffee and coffee shops in this city is a serious thing ... so serious that we have an article where we talk about the best coffee shops in Chiang Mai (coming soon). So you know: check it out if you want to know the most foodie side of this beautiful northern city. Also, if you are hungry, you can eat a (or two) portion of homemade cake: they are delicious!
